Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 14, 2026 · Last updated: September 14, 2026

CarryOnWorkspace (“CarryOnWorkspace,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is an independent editorial website covering remote-work gear, portable workspace technology, connectivity, and practical workspace setups. This policy explains what personal information we collect at carryonworkspace.com, why we collect it, who processes it on our behalf, and what choices and rights you have.

We have written this policy to describe what the site actually does today, rather than every practice we might adopt one day. If that changes, we will update this page and revise the date above.

For the purposes of the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, CarryOnWorkspace is the data controller for personal information collected through this website. Contact details are in section 17.

1. Information We Collect

Information you give us

You can read everything on CarryOnWorkspace without giving us any personal information. We only receive what you choose to send:

  • Newsletter subscription — your email address, and your name if the form asks for it.
  • Comments — the name, email address, and any website address you type into the comment form, plus the comment itself.
  • Email to us — your email address and whatever you include in your message.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, some information is collected automatically by our hosting provider and our analytics provider:

  • IP address, and the approximate geographic area derived from it
  • Browser type and version, device type, and operating system
  • The page you requested, the page that referred you, and the time of the request
  • Pages viewed, time on page, and interactions such as outbound link clicks
  • Cookie and similar identifiers

Our web host records standard server logs for every request as a normal part of operating and securing the site. Our analytics provider records site usage as described in section 7.

Information we do not collect

We do not knowingly collect special category data under the UK/EU GDPR or “sensitive personal information” under California law — such as health information, precise geolocation, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, or financial account details. We do not process payments, so we never see your card details: purchases you make after clicking an affiliate link happen entirely on the retailer’s own site.

2. Comments

Comments are open on CarryOnWorkspace articles. When you leave a comment, WordPress stores the content of your comment along with the name, email address, and optional website you supply. It also records your IP address and browser user agent string, which are used for spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address — a hash — may be sent to the Gravatar service, operated by Automattic, to check whether you have a public avatar associated with that address. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. Your avatar, if you have one, becomes publicly visible beside your comment.

Comments and the name you attach to them are public. Please do not include information in a comment that you would not want published. Your email address is not published.

Comments may be held for moderation or filtered as spam before appearing. If you would like a comment of yours removed, contact us and we will delete it.

3. Newsletter

If you subscribe to the CarryOnWorkspace newsletter, we use your email address to send new articles, buying guides, and occasional gear recommendations. Some of that content contains affiliate links.

We use Hostinger Reach, a service operated by our hosting provider Hostinger, to store our subscriber list and deliver newsletter emails. Your email address is processed by that service on our behalf.

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can use it at any time. We do not sell, rent, or trade our subscriber list, and we do not send email to people who have not asked for it.

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device by your browser. CarryOnWorkspace uses them for a limited set of purposes:

  • Strictly necessary — core site functionality and security, including the cookies WordPress sets if you choose to have the comment form remember your name and email for next time.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics 4 sets cookies to distinguish one visitor from another and to measure how the site is used. See section 7.
  • Affiliate attribution — when you click an affiliate link, the retailer or affiliate network sets its own cookie on its own domain to record that you arrived from us. See section 8.

We do not use advertising or retargeting cookies, because the site carries no display advertising.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking analytics or affiliate cookies does not stop you reading anything on the site. Where applicable law requires consent before non-essential cookies are set, we will obtain it.

5. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • operate, maintain, and secure the website;
  • publish and moderate comments;
  • send newsletters you have asked to receive;
  • respond to questions and privacy requests;
  • understand which articles readers find useful and improve them;
  • measure traffic and the performance of our content;
  • detect and prevent spam, abuse, and fraudulent activity;
  • record and attribute affiliate referrals; and
  • comply with legal obligations and protect our legal rights.

6. Legal Bases for Processing (UK and EU Visitors)

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, we rely on the following legal bases under Article 6 of the GDPR:

ActivityLegal basis
Sending you the newsletterConsent — you asked to receive it, and you may withdraw consent at any time
Setting analytics and other non-essential cookiesConsent, where applicable law requires it
Publishing and moderating comments you submitLegitimate interests — running a moderated public comment section
Server logs, spam prevention, and site securityLegitimate interests — keeping the website available and secure
Understanding site usage to improve our articlesLegitimate interests — operating and improving an editorial publication
Affiliate referral attributionLegitimate interests — being credited for referrals that fund the site
Retaining records to meet legal or tax obligationsLegal obligation

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether those interests are overridden by your rights and freedoms. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests — see section 13.

7. Analytics

CarryOnWorkspace uses Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to understand how the site is used. Google Analytics collects information including the pages you visit, how long you spend on them, your device and browser, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and how you arrived at the site.

We use this to see which guides readers actually find useful, to spot broken pages and technical problems, and to decide what to write next. We do not use analytics data to try to identify individual readers, and we do not combine it with your email address.

Google processes this data as described in its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your activity by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser.

We do not currently run Google AdSense or any other advertising network on this site.

8. Affiliate Links

CarryOnWorkspace is an affiliate-supported publication. Some articles, buying guides, and reviews contain affiliate links. If you click one and make a qualifying purchase, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you — the commission comes out of the retailer’s margin.

CarryOnWorkspace participates in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We may participate in other retailer and manufacturer affiliate programs as well.

When you click an affiliate link, the affiliate network or retailer typically sets a cookie or appends a tracking parameter so it can tell that you arrived from CarryOnWorkspace and whether a qualifying purchase followed. That information is collected by those third parties on their own websites and is governed by their privacy policies, not this one. We receive reporting about referrals and commissions, but we do not receive your name, address, or payment details.

Affiliate commissions never determine our rankings or recommendations. For more, see our [Affiliate Disclosure](/affiliate-disclosure/).

9. Service Providers and Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the providers that make the site work, and only as far as needed:

ProviderWhat it doesWhat it may process
HostingerWebsite hosting and email infrastructureServer logs, IP addresses, anything submitted through the site
Hostinger ReachNewsletter list management and deliverySubscriber email addresses and engagement data
GoogleGoogle Analytics 4Usage data, IP-derived approximate location, cookie identifiers
Automattic (Gravatar)Comment avatarsA hash of a commenter’s email address
Amazon and other affiliate partnersAffiliate link attributionReferral and conversion data collected on their own sites

We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, legal process, or a valid government request; to enforce our terms; to investigate fraud, spam, or abuse; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of CarryOnWorkspace, our readers, or others.

10. Data Retention

  • Newsletter subscribers — we keep your email address while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, our email provider keeps a minimal suppression record so that you are not accidentally re-subscribed.
  • Comments — comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up replies continue to make sense, unless you ask us to delete them.
  • Server logs — retained by our host on its standard schedule, generally a short rolling window for security and troubleshooting.
  • Analytics data — retained according to the retention period configured in Google Analytics, after which Google deletes or aggregates user-level data.
  • Email correspondence — kept as long as needed to deal with your query and to keep a record of it.

11. Security

The site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and we host it with an established commercial hosting provider. We keep the site’s software updated, restrict administrative access to the small number of people who need it, and choose reputable third-party providers to handle email and analytics.

We should be straightforward with you: CarryOnWorkspace is a small independent publication, not a bank. No website or method of electronic transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. The best protection available to you is that we deliberately collect very little — you can read every article here without giving us anything at all.

12. Children’s Privacy

CarryOnWorkspace is written for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights:

  • Access — ask what personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to fix information that is inaccurate
  • Deletion — ask us to delete personal information we hold
  • Portability — receive certain information in a portable format
  • Objection and restriction — object to, or ask us to limit, processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent — withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out
  • Non-discrimination — not be treated worse for exercising a privacy right

To make a request, email us using the details in section 17. We may need to ask you for information to verify your identity before we act, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. Exercising these rights is free.

You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any email, without contacting us.

If you are in the UK or EEA and you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

14. California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA may give you additional rights.

Categories of personal information we collect. In the past 12 months we have collected: identifiers (such as email address, IP address, and the name you attach to a comment); internet or other electronic network activity information (such as pages viewed and referral source); and inferences drawn from usage data (such as which topics interest our readers in aggregate). The sources, purposes, and recipients are described in sections 1, 5, and 9.

We do not sell or share personal information. We have not sold personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. We have never done so, including with respect to minors under 16.

We do not collect sensitive personal information as that term is defined under the CPRA.

Your California rights. You may request to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected, request correction of inaccurate information, and request deletion, subject to legal exceptions. You may not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. You may use an authorised agent to submit a request on your behalf; we may ask for proof of that authorisation.

To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in section 17.

15. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Web browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal, but there is still no common standard for how sites should respond, and we do not currently respond to it.

We do honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where applicable law requires it. Because we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is in practice nothing for a GPC signal to opt you out of.

16. International Visitors and Data Transfers

CarryOnWorkspace is operated from, and hosted on infrastructure located in, various countries including the United States and the European Union. If you access the site from outside those places, your information may be transferred to and processed in a country whose data-protection laws differ from those of your own.

Where personal information of UK or EEA visitors is transferred outside the UK or EEA, we rely on our providers’ transfer mechanisms, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision, to protect that information.

17. Third-Party Websites

CarryOnWorkspace links out to retailers, manufacturers, review sites, and primary sources such as government agencies. Once you follow a link away from this site, this policy no longer applies, and we have no control over how those websites handle your information. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.

18. Business Transfers

If CarryOnWorkspace is ever sold, merged, or reorganised, or if its assets are transferred, information associated with the website may be part of that transfer. Any successor would receive that information subject to this policy and applicable law, and we would note any material change to how your information is handled on this page.

19. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to the site, our providers, or the law. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your personal information, we will make that clear rather than relying on you to notice a new date.
